Kokosi, Fochville, West Rand, Gauteng.

Neighborhood committee organizations: MN Foundation together with Ithemba Labantu Youth Centre.

‘We have more than 1000s of youth unemployed from rural areas and here who are around the hostels, hungry waiting for a directive – such as these people are taking our jobs lets attack them, they are ready’

The report is based on what came out of the workshop  process  and  not necessarily reflections of Foundation for Human Rights. Majority of participants were youth. FHR partnered with the lead organizations in Kokosi for the Neighbourhood committees project namely Ithemba Labantu Community Centre.

Key issues highlighted are high level of prostitution by many young unemployed youth, the usual high levels of youth unpaid work, mental health, drug abuse by youth who intimidating parents in the name of who you are to tell me not to use drugs, need for counselling and a national movement against drugs. While such findings are shocking, there were solutions highlighted by the youth and community participants.

Follow-up programs will be develop in partnership with the Foundation of Human Rights.
